Volumetric Weight Calculator — Formula for Couriers in India
Learn the L×B×H÷5000 volumetric weight formula, when it beats actual weight, and how to lower courier charges with smarter packaging.
The common India formula
For many domestic e-commerce contracts, volumetric weight (kg) = (Length × Breadth × Height in cm) ÷ 5000. Convert to grams by multiplying by 1000. Some contracts use 4000 or 6000 — always check your rate card.
Actual vs volumetric — who wins?
Couriers bill the higher of scale weight and volumetric weight. A light pillow in a huge box can cost as much as a dense package of the same size. Right-size cartons to keep volumetric under actual when possible.
